Meet Anjali Raj Hansoty of Indie-Pendant
Jewelry Design House featuring 'pret' - ready to wear collections designer &/ or curated by me and working on bespoke creations. Resetting old pieces. Mixed metal use with silver being the most commonly used metal. The design portfolio is extensive having been in the trade close to a decade now. There are the Fabuless Fakes featuring Swarovski Crystals and the 'Polki' ( Table cut diamonds) set in gold and silver; at the ends, with natural gemstones and pave set diamonds in between!
What do you love about your business and industry?
Design and the varied 'playing field' it offers! Jewelry- oh that is an over saturated category is a refrain I have heard constantly every time I have applied to shows- true , but the designs on offer are only limited by the designer's imagination which given the pool is abundant! So there, while it is a challenge being.' yet another jewelry designer', it is also exciting!
Tell us what inspires you.
Art, travel, NATURE, wearability of the pieces is what I find myself getting drawn to more these days- being a mum to 3 gorgeous boys I realize how little time mum's truly have to themselves, so pieces that are effortless in terms to wearability is my current state of design!
What advice do you have for other creatives and entrepreneurs?
Love what you do and it will be rewarding!
What is something surprising about you (secret talent, unexpected fact, fear, etc)?
( I think) I am bad at drawing! Despite that I manage to get the design done!!
What is the most common question you get about you and your business?
How did you get into this?
Tell us about your process for making and creating.
For the custom pieces, the process can take months (and has taken year) given that the designs are exchanged between me and the patron/client and then the stones are selected for the design and the execution prior to which is the CAD (computer aided design sketch) , the mold if need be which is made and the final step, of setting the stones and making the piece! The 'pret' collection usually involves the design /theme being worked on, it can be an open collection with more designs gradually added, which has been the case with the 'Universal Luck' collection which initially started with just the Evil Eye and the Hamsa, but now includes lucky charms like the 4 leaf clover, butterfly, Chinese double happiness logo ....
Name three local makers and brands that you are inspired by and why.
Having relocated to Chicago only in 2014 I am still in the process of discovering local makers but the one have come to know and work with- Adorn Chi candles ( the wood wick candles are amazing and Lilia is a beautiful soul inside-out!)
What is the best advice you've ever been given and how has it shaped your business?
Ravi, my better half, without whom I never would have set up the Design House! Cant remember the exact advice but was somewhere along the lines of ' create what you seek' ...
