Meet Katherine Heinze, Scrub Me
I made plant based skin care items to treat different skin types or skincare concerns. All my ingredients are vegan and from the earth. "Everything you need and nothing you don't" is our motto when choosing what ingredients go into the products. Every ingredient has a purpose. scrub me also has a small skin care studio in River West where we provide facials and other treatments.
What do you love about your business and industry?
I love being able to help people look and feel their best. When someone is happy with their skin, happy with the way a product changed their skin, or even just more relaxed after a service it really makes me feel great. I also love discussing and sharing ideas with my peers.
Tell us what inspires you.
My clients and my peers. When someone has a skin care concern, a question, or a product they want created; that is where I get a lot of inspiration for new products and treatments.
What advice do you have for other creatives and entrepreneurs?
Time management and organization is everything. Executing your creative ideas is not always the easiest or most fun part of the job, but very necessary. Keeping your thoughts, ideas and time organized will help you get things done.
What is something surprising about you?
My interest in make-up and make-up application is what got me interested in the skin care industry when I was younger. It wasn't until after esthetics school that I chose this slightly different path.
Tell us about your process for making and creating.
When creating a new scrub, soap, body butter, spa bomb, I first think about what skin type or skin care concern I would like to address. Then I formulate my recipe. Everything is then made by myself and or my mother.
Name three local makers and brands that you are inspired by and why.
Mashallah Jewelry inspires me because her energy and marketing is so amazing. She really sells herself and her company well.
Adorn Candle inspires me because her candles always smell amazing and I love trading essential oil blend ideas with her.
Soap Distillery is inspiring to me because I love the soaps she makes and it always amazes me how much soap she is able to actually make. She gets a lot done!
What is the best advice you've ever been given and how has it shaped your business?
Sales & marketing is my weak spot I would say; the best advice i've gotten for that is that its takes upwards of 5 times to get someones attention when you're trying to sell them or get them to try your product. Never stop reaching out to them until they absolutely tell you no. Otherwise you could miss out on an opportunity.
